Photo Rag

When evaluating this paper, it’s hard to avoid comparing it to Canson Arches 88. Hahnemühle Photo Rag is just slightly warmer, giving it a classic off-white look. It also has a bit more texture and, to the touch, offers a more premium feel. Black-and-white photographs look fantastic on it—rich in detail with smooth tonal transitions. In my opinion, this is the best matte paper from Hahnemühle.

Compared to it, Ultra Smooth is a little whiter, but it also delivers less contrast. Bright White, on the other hand, didn’t work for me in terms of detail, even though the only supposed difference between Photo Rag and Bright White should be tonal character—with Bright White being the brighter of the two.
